Quasi has an sweetness of face you can't help but love.

psst..wanna buy a sub?

from the providence journal:
For sale: Old Russian sub

Maria Armental
PROVIDENCE -- Providence's Russian sub -- which sank last year and was raised again this summer with much travail -- is to become scrap metal, that is, if no one steps up to buy the vessel intact, the Russian Sub Museum announced today.

The submarine, featured in the 2002 Harrison Ford film "K-19: The Widowmaker," was a local attraction and educational facility from August 2002 until it sank in April 2007 during a storm.

Frank Lennon, director of the Russian Sub Museum, said in a statement today that the group had reached an agreement with a metal recycling company to move the submarine downriver and dismantle it for scrap if no buyers step up.

"We have inquiries as far away as Australia," Lennon said thsi afternoon, "but having inquiries is one thing. Having a solid interest or request is another."

Lennon said the group is pressed for time because the sub must be moved for the damaged piers to be repaired.

According to the terms of the agreement, the sub will be towed away before the end of January.

Still, he said, that doesn't mean the sub would be scrapped immediately.

"We made every effort to figure out a way to restore this historic vessel and reopen her as a public attraction," said Lennon. "Marine surveyors and salvage experts helped us evaluate the options, and we finally concluded that after 15 months underwater, the condition of the interior is such that restoration is simply not a financially viable option for our group."

If it comes down to junking it, Lennon said, "We plan to remove items such as the periscopes, torpedo tube doors, missile firing stations, engine order telegraphs, and various other controls and gauges."

blogger's note:
i'm still not entirely certain how we got the sub in the first place, but there it is.

interesting art networking sites

i thought i would compile a list of interesting "myspace" type networking sites i have found here and there-they might be useful to somebody.as always,if you know an interesting one,let me know and i'll add it to the list.

Squidoo
kind of a yuwie type site from what i've heard.i think you get thrown a few cents to post.

Yuwie
you get paid something here, but i don't think you're allowed personal links-so links to your art pages would probably be out.but you could still network with people.i'd check their TOS about posting.

Ohmybuzz
good place to generate publicity.

My creative intent
definetly like a myspace.

artists emerge
you can add links,i think you have to pay to do a portfolio.

taltopia
supposed to generate a fan base somehow.

spy-n-buy network
like squidoo, the guy who owns it is really nice from what i heard.

unseen tv
for artists with more of an erotic slant to their work.

projekt 30
more or less an online gallery.they have success placing artists (according to them)
YMMV.

deviantartthis site's been around for awhile.
you can upload stuff for free, making prints costs extra.

vector vault
a community of sorts-mainly for people who deal in vectors.

it's art,not stuff!
seems to be social and gallery site.not sure if you can sell through there, but probably add links at least.

Dying, dead or might as well be PTC's

These are ones i know of that either have closed up,or may be in the process.
sad, some of them were cool.I have noticed one big warning sign of something reaching it's end usually is switching to points system,"prize"(as in you'll never see one) system,or less mails due to no advertising.
***********************
Apairof-this used to be a great site, they always paid.
Haven't seen mails in months now,i gave up on it.

Myster-e-mail-i guess she's closing this,no new members are being accepted.

Twisted clickers-same owner,i don't know what's going on here.
Big warning sign on site about some graphic artist.

Netwinner-They switched to points,i've never seen any prize playing this for two years, screw it.You can take the chance if you want to.

Ciao-I don't know what to think of this.They were paying,and now it's a contest.
I'm not fighting thousands of other people for a few pay slots. As usual, the cut and pasters F'd it up for everyone else.
Also a lot of "wouldya look at my review" people blowing up your mailbox, even though it says in the TOS don't do that shit.
~*update*~
ciao is merging/becoming bing, shutting down the ciao part.nevermind now.

Pawtucket Grinch Steals Gifts
12-06-2008 4:45 AM

(Pawtucket, RI) -- A family in Pawtucket, already facing hard times, had hundreds of dollars in gifts stolen from them. William Labree woke up Thursday to a knocked over Christmas tree, windows open, scratches on the door, and his kids presents gone. Witnesses said a white male in a red pick-up truck took everything. Labree says he is out of work, the house is in foreclosure, and now the kids won't have anything for Christmas. He says the gifts were donated by friends hoping to give his little girl and boy a Christmas to remember. Labree says besides the gifts, the thief took the families rented big screen TV and the kids bikes. Pawtucket Police are still investigating.

blogger's note:
what an evil,evil man.
stealing from a family already in foreclosure.
i wish they'd had a donation site-i'd send them something.
i know times are hard, but there's no call for this type of crap.

one in,one out

i was reading in the paper the Living Room (nightclub) in providence is closing for good.that's really sad.i remember the big bubble days, when extreme was always playing, and sold out everytime.it was a great club, always worth the admission.
never seemed to get the following it once did after it moved.
thanx for the memories, randy.on that note, what ever happened to big richard?
cool,cool guy.

on the other side,Luke's record exchange in pawtucket is supposed to be reopening.
that's good to hear-found many a rare poster or album there.the place was a goldmine
for band merch and rarities.
