lions and bears and bums..oh my

my zazzle artist list has been updated,so check 'em out.
been busy doing the seasonal clean out,so i was a bit behind.

lions

speaking of clean out..
dropped off a lot of glasses to the lions'club box.they take old prescription glasses
and i guess clean them up and re-distribute them.we had quite a few from various family members,so i figured somebody could use them.but it's a good idea, eyeglasses are hideously expensive nowadays..however,just like everything else.

bear..market
so i've sitting back and watching what the town has spent the "stimulus" money on.
let's see..a 6 figure reproduction "horse trough" for the square..
um..it's illegal to ride horses locally..not even the cops..so who the F is gonna use this thing exactly!?
we have streets that haven't been paved since 1977,and..let's buy a trough.
oh,wait..that's not fair.they pave the 3 main streets every year, god forbid the tourist see how the rest of us "non-400" live.

bums
and while we're speaking of the 3 main roads..
they redid the square to look old style..slate sidewalk pieces, and borders at the top of streets with cobblestone.now, while it looks nice, the bums who live at the Y are etching the stone for them.there's a NICE big stain on the slate right outside from vomit.
charming..it's already geting ruined.

while obama may have meant well with stimulus packages, they really should monitor how the money's getting spent.these city governments are spending it on shit as usual, which is how we got in this fix in the first place.garish overspending.
pave the streets school buses travel on,for F's sake.shouldn't kid's safety come above tourists?

zazzle
ok,this has nothing to do with the above..but i thought i'd mention we have binders now.these are pretty cool,i'm glad they added them.
the guide file could choke a horse, but it's worth it :)=)

sad state of the state

so i was reading that a homeless man froze to death in providence the other night.
"middle aged" meaning he was probably one who lost his job and home recently.

yet at the same time in the paper, people were lauding how the "first night" and various other stupid social things were saved due to donations.

it just makes me sick.the "well-to-do" in this area will contribute to events, and saving stupid buildings only they care about, while people are homeless, starving, cold.
surely a human being is a more rewarding contribution, especially in these times, than
fireworks we really don't need?or a replicated horse trough in newport that nobody remembers because it was over 100 years ago!?

i said a long time ago that this one industry industry around rhode island would bite them on the ass one day-you have to diversify,or you set yourself up for economic problems in the long run.nobody's travelling (well,as least as much for non-business),so the hospitality/tourist industry is hurting.hence no jobs.

there will probably be more guys like the one in providence.
there but for the grace go we all.

Quasi has an sweetness of face you can't help but love.

check out the site, and Quasi products are available.donations are made to a shelter
(i believe the one Quasi came from),so it's for a good cause.

psst..wanna buy a sub?

from the providence journal:
For sale: Old Russian sub

Maria Armental
PROVIDENCE -- Providence's Russian sub -- which sank last year and was raised again this summer with much travail -- is to become scrap metal, that is, if no one steps up to buy the vessel intact, the Russian Sub Museum announced today.

The submarine, featured in the 2002 Harrison Ford film "K-19: The Widowmaker," was a local attraction and educational facility from August 2002 until it sank in April 2007 during a storm.

Frank Lennon, director of the Russian Sub Museum, said in a statement today that the group had reached an agreement with a metal recycling company to move the submarine downriver and dismantle it for scrap if no buyers step up.

"We have inquiries as far away as Australia," Lennon said thsi afternoon, "but having inquiries is one thing. Having a solid interest or request is another."

Lennon said the group is pressed for time because the sub must be moved for the damaged piers to be repaired.

According to the terms of the agreement, the sub will be towed away before the end of January.

Still, he said, that doesn't mean the sub would be scrapped immediately.

"We made every effort to figure out a way to restore this historic vessel and reopen her as a public attraction," said Lennon. "Marine surveyors and salvage experts helped us evaluate the options, and we finally concluded that after 15 months underwater, the condition of the interior is such that restoration is simply not a financially viable option for our group."

If it comes down to junking it, Lennon said, "We plan to remove items such as the periscopes, torpedo tube doors, missile firing stations, engine order telegraphs, and various other controls and gauges."

blogger's note:
i'm still not entirely certain how we got the sub in the first place, but there it is.

another cat needing help:

(picture does not show injuries-this cat has open wounds)

This poor boy is located at a vet clinic in Hamilton, IL. The county doesn’t help with cats so when the animal control told the teenagers there was nothing he could do to help, they brought this boy into my vets office. He was found in horrible condition with the skin on his stomach hanging off and his skin is falling off in pieces. No money, stray cat with no owner.....he didn’t have many options. It is believed he was hit by a car and drug underneath it. He is incredibly friendly and outgoing, even in the shape he is in. Now what is going to become of him…euthanasia, turned loose back to the streets????? These kids that brought him in can’t take him or pay the bill, with no animal control here for cats this Tom needs your help. He is expected a full recovery so please if you can help donate towards his bill you can call vet office Hancock Veterinary Clinic, at 217-847-3911 or if you can rescue him, please contact Westhancockk9@mchsi.com. Transport to Chicago is available!!
