what is it now with kids getting out of school on the rumor of snow?
do they like accruing summer days?
don't know whose idea that was,the schools or the parents..or both.
when i was little,we had to have 4 to 6 inches on the ground before they even thought about it.kids weren't gonna melt,it wasn't a big issue.although i must admit during the blizzard of 1978,we had more than we could handle.i think i was making up days til august that year.the year before,my school didn't even have a furnace-the other half of the school had burnt down.that'd probably be a lawsuit today ("what do you mean my kid has no heat?wah wah wah")but y'know,we lived.
..and double sided purple printed test sheets probably helped.
and if you're over 35,you DO know what i mean LOL
(what was in that ink?)
it seems like after katrina, the slightest storm of any kind makes people go into a frenzy.i can't believe i'm seeing people freak out over 1 inch of snow.
and oh yes..
i did carry my lunch to school in a metal bucket.
a metal bucket with scooby doo on it,that is. :)

the amazing spirit of a kitten
this story really touched me-
disabled kitty
it's about tashi,a rescued kitten who was found in a feral cat colony.
tashi has a congenital spinal defect, which causes problems walking.watching the video however, the happiness and general cheer of the feline belies the condition.
what tashi lacks in motor skills, she makes up for in enthusiasm.
they are doing rehab for the kitten, trying to strengthen the legs so perhaps she can walk one day on her own.for now,she is aided with a sling for the back legs.
i think they accept donations for care,so check out the link, and perhaps donate
for the cute lil' tabby.
this place is also rescuer to an all black cat who was hit by a car and now uses a wheelchair.he has already gone to a new home.

sad state of the state
so i was reading that a homeless man froze to death in providence the other night.
"middle aged" meaning he was probably one who lost his job and home recently.
yet at the same time in the paper, people were lauding how the "first night" and various other stupid social things were saved due to donations.
it just makes me sick.the "well-to-do" in this area will contribute to events, and saving stupid buildings only they care about, while people are homeless, starving, cold.
surely a human being is a more rewarding contribution, especially in these times, than
fireworks we really don't need?or a replicated horse trough in newport that nobody remembers because it was over 100 years ago!?
i said a long time ago that this one industry industry around rhode island would bite them on the ass one day-you have to diversify,or you set yourself up for economic problems in the long run.nobody's travelling (well,as least as much for non-business),so the hospitality/tourist industry is hurting.hence no jobs.
there will probably be more guys like the one in providence.
there but for the grace go we all.
